The Vasectomy service in Oxfordshire - have your say on the future of the service

Oxfordshire CCG has set up an anonymous survey to find out your views on two options for the NHS vasectomy service in Oxfordshire: either to stop it (decommission the service except where there are exceptional circumstances) or alternatively to introduce eligibility criteria.

At the start of August 2018, Oxfordshire CCG suspended referrals to the NHS vasectomy service provided by the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) as it had exceeded capacity.

However, the current contract with BPAS has been extended until the end of March 2019 to allow patients on the waiting list to be treated.

There are other short and long-term contraceptives methods which are available free of charge to men and women locally and which can be accessed at all nine of Oxfordshire’s sexual health clinics.

We are currently holding a six-week period of engagement which includes the survey which is anonymous and if you respond you won't be identified. It will also involve focus groups for interested stakeholders.

Once the engagement is finished a decision will be made by Oxfordshire CCG on whether to decommission the vasectomy service or to introduce criteria on who can have one. This decision will be reported back to Oxfordshire’s Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting.

There are several ways you can share your views with us on the future of the vasectomy service by taking part in the online survey by clicking on the following link here:
