News Update

Choose Well Over the Jubilee Bank Holiday (2 & 3 June)

There are a range of local health services available over the Jubilee bank holidays. Please choose well.

  • NHS 111: if you need health advice but are not in a life-threatening emergency go to 111.nhs.uk or call 111 free.
  • Pharmacies: offer advice about minor illnesses and conditions, and how to manage your medicines.
  • To view Oxfordshire pharmacy opening times over the Jubilee Bank Holiday (2 & 3 June) go to Pharmacy (oxfordshireccg.nhs.uk).
  • Minor Injuries Unit/First Aid Unit: If you need prompt advice or treatment for minor injuries, a Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) or Bicester First Aid Unit could help you – for location details and opening hours see here
  • GP practices: are closed over the bank holiday but NHS 111 can put you in touch with a doctor or other health professional if you need one.
  • Emergency Departments and 999 are for life threatening emergencies. If you go to an emergency department (A&E) for other conditions you may face a very long wait as priority is given to patients with the most urgent clinical need.

People aged 75 and over and those who are immunosuppressed are urged to get their fourth jab to help protect them from the virus.

Once you receive an invitation you can book a booster via the national booking service online or call 119 free to get your jab at various sites across Oxfordshire. This includes GP-led sites, community pharmacies and the large vaccination centre at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford.

COVID jabs for people aged 12 and over: you can get 1st or 2nd doses and booster jabs in Oxfordshire without an appointment – for more details and to find a clinic near you see here or book your jab via the national system

COVID Vaccinations for 5-11 year olds

All children aged 5-11 are now able to get a vaccination against COVID-19.

The Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation has advised that 5-11 year olds are offered paediatric (child) doses of the vaccine, which has been approved by the UK’s medicines regulator, to boost immunity and increase their protection against any future waves of COVID-19.

Children aged 5-11 with no other underlying health conditions will be offered two paediatric doses of the vaccine, at least 12 weeks apart. For further information and to book a vaccination please see here
